Each Week this summer we have invited a resident artist to stay at the campground to teach workshops, and demonstrate their skill each day for our guests~ either at a low cost or for free.
Keeping with our mission of facilitating family vacations, these daily activities will be attractive to both children and adults and generally focused on families learning and playing together.
This is your opportunity to explore weaving, carving, photography, nature crafts and a variety of other interesting passions.

| June 21-27 | Karen Jelenfy | While working and teaching at Searsport Shores we will be studying the forms and colors on the beach at low tide. My practice will include drawing and watercolor. In my classes I will encourage campers of all ages to follow me to the beach and record what they see. Going back to the studio, we will create more abstract work from memory. |
| June 28-July 4 | Angelika Paul | Angelika will guide campers in making paint, bouncing balls, slime, play-dough, and colored salt and sugar for a week of making Art from Scratch.” |
| July 5-11 | Abigail Santner and Gail Santner | Join mother-daughter team Gail and Abigail Santner as they explore the intersection of art and the natural world through simple book making and printing, nature walks, wind chime creation and more! |
| July 12-18 | Russell Kahn | Pottery for beginners and advanced campers….There will be wheel work and hand building. If time permits pieces can be glazed. In the afternoon/evening small classes will be held for a small fee. |
| July 19-25 | Twin Invasion with Susan Ober & Nancy Ober | Susan is a quilter from Connecticut. Her identical twin sister Nancy, is a potter from Kansas City, Mo. Susan’s primary art form is quilts, She has made around 100 to date; Nancy has been throwing pottery for over 30 years. They both enjoy gardening and have multiple other interests. Come see what other projects the twins have created for their week at The Shores. |
| July 26- Aug 1 | Ellen Mason | Come learn about pattern-making and garment construction and the tiny thing that holds it all together: The Humble Stitch. Ellen will stitch a garment a day while she is at Searsport Shores. Campers are invited to sew an accessory, fasten a button, hem too-long pants, embellish with embroidery, all with coaching and the company of friends. Stitching is a handy skill that can be learned at any age! |
| Aug 2-8 | Santa Steve | I teach three art forms: Chainmail (armor and jewelry); macrame; and cartoon character design. The first chainmail project is a keychain. Other typical projects are bracelets and necklaces. The first macrame project is a survival bracelet. For cartoon character design, I start with simple Kilroys and progress to animal characters. |
| August 9-15 | Maryly Matthewman | This year I will be working on “The Faces Of…….” Project. Everyone adds to the face with bits of fabric, whatever looks good to them. Bits are held down with glue until I can sew them in place. We will do The Faces of Searsport Shores Campground, and everyone helps. We can even do some self portraits on fabric. Want to learn to knit? Come along this week. And the beads I have this year!! $1 each for hand crafted glass beads!! Hope to see you in August my friends. |
| Aug 16-22 | Mihoko Wakabayashi | Mihoko will share a Japanese art everyday such as SAORI weaving, Japanese Paper Dyeing or Origami. These art are suitable for all ages, children to elderly. They are simple but beautiful and interesting. Participants will make something that they can take home with them. |
| Aug 23-29 | Kathleen Gerdes | Felting is a magical process which starts with raw wool and ends up as a whimsical three dimensional figure, wearable art or a wall hanging, which Kathleen describes as “painting with wool”. Felting is easy, fun and very forgiving. And it can be done by anyone! It’s a perfect craft for children or adults who enjoy making magic with their hands. Kathleen will be at the “Shores” this summer to help you create frogs, hedgehogs, owls, gnomes, flowers, sheep, and ducks in ponds, just to name a few of the choices that you’ll have when you join her at the studio. Perhaps you’d like to try your hand at “wearable art”. Kathleen would love to show you how to make a beautiful felted bead necklace too! |
