The Freezing Temperatures are Here

Luck for me I finished wet felting a pair of mittens yesterday morning.  Actually, because my hands are always cold, they’re outer mittens meant to be worn with fingerless gloves so that I can take blog photos and pick up things along the beach…they’ll do the job but it’s good that you can’t see how rough the felt is because I rushed a bit while thinking of Christmas deadlines.

The wool was donated from a Maine island sheep that wore three colors naturally…I added the icy blue as a nod to the color of the ocean this time of year.

The weather turned blustery and cold yesterday…enough to fringe the stream that runs through the property with icy lace.  Still, the sky was a brilliant blue so wandering along the stream was like a dallying in an art gallery that featured frosted glass…see what I mean?

Actually, we were wandering along the stream so that both the goats and resident hound JJ could
stretch their legs a bit.  Queen Lollipop and Sir Neeshee (the Angora goats) were looking for a bit of green to nibble and frankly the only green to be

found in the woods was the moss…luckily, the grass is still growing in sheltered lawns of the campground so they did get a nibble…enough to satisfy a goat for about an hour.

Do you see how long the shadows are?  These pictures were taken about 2:00PM and it’s a real reminder of how short our days are becoming…it’s twilight by 4:00PM now and in my world at least, 8 o’clock is starting to feel like a perfectly reasonable time to crawl into bed with a good book.

It was a good morning to stay in bed too!  The world changed and Accuweather had done nothing to predict it!  So much for the leaf mulching Steven planned to do for the final garden beds.  The sky, the ground, the ocean and beach were monotone washes of gray and white all day…the first snow of the season has arrived…time for chocolate brownie sundaes and nesting with a good movie!  ‘Night for now!
